STATEMENT BY CENTER FOR ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL

This is not an audit; it's a political agenda.

CACC fully rejects the Comptroller's findings. By interviewing only terminated employees and political activists, the Comptroller's office has failed to meet its charter-mandated requirements under federal auditing standards to produce an objective assessment of our organization and contract.

From day one, the Comptroller's accountants were not willing to understand or comprehend the essential public safety and health services CACC provides for the City of New York.

The exceptional care of our animals has been publicly supported many times by the Humane Society of the United States. Additionally, since 1995, the Department of Health cited in over 1,200 inspections that there is no evidence of inhumane treatment or poor veterinary care at CACC.

CACC takes great pride in the compassion and care our dedicated, highly trained staff provide every day for 60,000 animals that come through our shelters each year. There is a commitment to every single life.

At the end of the day, it is the animals that will be hurt most by this audit's political agenda. Both the animals and the residents of New York City deserve better.
