                     The Firing of Emily Tanen

Controversy has been growing around NYC's Animal Care & Control's dismissal of employee Emily Tanen,
who worked in ACC's Manhattan  "New Hope" office. New Hope employees communicate with rescue
groups, provide information about shelter animals, and encourage rescuers to pull animals from the ACC.

Since January 1, 2010, ACC is no longer able to state that it kills animals for lack of "SPACE," leaving it
only two excuses: ILLNESS or BEHAVIOR.

Ms. Tanen was recently quoted in a New York POST article as follows:
"
There's no doubt that animals are being labeled as being sick or dangerous so they can be killed more
quickly

We have long argued that political pressures force the ACC to mislabel its shelter cats and dogs.  Not the
least of these political pressures is the City's refusal to properly fund the ACC and its refusal to create full
service animal shelters in the Bronx and Queens.

And it is the City (through its Department of Health) that controls this supposed "independent" charity
called Animal Care & Control.

RADIO EXPOSÉ OF AC&C
In case you missed the radio broadcast June 5, the organization called DOGS IN DANGER conducted an
exposé of the AC&C, featuring former AC&C employee Emily Tanen, an anonymous current AC&C
employee, and Assemblyman Micah Kellner. Click
